The WIDE Research Center at Michigan State University is seeking bids on the development of an online writing tool. The purpose of this tool is to provide users with a simple interface to enable digital writing. The form that this writing takes may vary depending on the user’s activity: they may be composing an email, writing a press release, or designing a web page. This tool must be flexible enough to support a wide variety of writing activities yet be straight-forward and intuitive in a way that eliminates the need for the user to know anything about HTML or FTP.
This tool must be designed using PHP, JavaScript and Ajax so that it can easily be implemented in existing projects built using those languages. The contents of the editing box composed by the user must be standards-compliant HTML that can be dumped into a PHP variable for processing (sending an email, storing in a database, etc). Inversely, the editing box must be able to be fed existing HTML (for editing existing writing).
The tool must make the uploading of files and images dead-simple using intuitive interfaces. This would ideally be done with the use of CSS or Ajax lightboxes that would present the user with a new interface depending on their activity. Please read further for a mockup of the editing box as well as descriptions of each additional interface.
This software will be distributed in a number of different ways, but primarily as part of licensed software packages. As a result, any existing classes, libraries, or source code used in the creation of this tool must be not only open-source but must permit the modification and distribution of that code, including as part of commercial products.
Good day.
I am a competent object oriented PHP coder located in the Canton, MI area (only 1 hr from MSU). I have done numerous CMS using open-source & custom WYSIWYG editors for a whole host of web applications.
I will send you a PM to outline my thoughts on your project and timing. GO SPARTANS!
