Assignment 1 Marks: 15% towards the module The report should contain a total of 10 pages answer including all questions Spacing: single line Citizen Transport Service State Transport Service (STS) has been in existence for more than 40 years, rising from a family owned private business to a government owned entity. With a fleet of over 500 buses, STS carried more than 2000 passengers on a daily basis around the country. The company employs 7,800 staff and has a government share capital of USD 50 M. The fixed asset is currently estimated at USD 1 billion while the annual turnover is USD. 550 M. CTS has 7 depots around the country to facilitate movement of its vehicles around the island. With rising competition on the market, STS realises that it has to turnaround into a profitable organisation. There are various means that can be pulled together to drive STS towards this objective. The financial weakness of this organisation is due to various factors, which combine together to create the recipe for corporate failure. It has often been seen that spare parts have been ordered, received, paid for and stocked at a depot, but never used for more than a decade, while the same spare parts were needed at other depots. Thus, more help was not neded to waste public funds. Clearly, the depot managers did not have a proper list of items in stock, being received and delivered. The worst was hit when it was found out that the spare parts were nowhere to be found and their existence in the depot was only in the books, and not physical! Nobody could ever answer the number of vehicles that were on the roads at a given point in time, or that were parked at bus stations. If at all anybody could give the correct number of bus drivers and bus conductors not working on a particular day, that person must be either genius or magician! Often, employees were attacked by passengers and buses vandalised by youngsters who were confident of not being spotted. Hence, computation of overtime payment did not guarantee from overpaying those who did not work and underpaying those who did work. At least one of them would smile all the way to the bank. Linking absentism with productivity was utopian since there were very few measures of corporate performance. Worst of all is that there was no proper means to communicate these bad results to employees since the internal communication system was not supported by proper tools. Having realised that the problem of STS was a big reason to worry, the Board of Directors decided to call your team in as an information strategist and to advise on the following (5 slides only): 1. Setting the context (Slide 1) 2. In broad lines, how can you help improve the business of STS? (Slide 2) 3. What would be your strategy for 1. (Slide 3) 4. Prepare a highlevel architecture to support the execution of the strategy. The strategy must include both an on-prem and cloud solution. (Slide 4) 5. How would you handle project risks and what would be your change management approach (Slide 5) Technology must be based on oracle current technology stack.
