**Should be a simple task for SQL Server and Access VBA experts.**
The biggest challenge is that it is URGENT. If at all possible, I really need it done over the weekend for Monday delivery. (OUCH)
I have a local Access mdb with several related tables.
I also have a SQL Server DB on a shared web server.
The table structures are CLOSE, but not identical.
I need to synchronize records between the two 2 or 3 times a day. So, that means it must be automated. The shared server does NOT support Replication nor does it allow Bulk Insert/BulkXML. It DOES support DTS.
Records get added and modified on both the local mdb and the SQL Server through web browsers.
The connection will be through an "Always on" DSL line.
I've gotten close to a solution, myself, but I'm stuck with a few errors that I can't seem to get past.
Here's what works, so far:
I have queries that append records to temp tables.
I have a DTS (SQL Server Data Transfer Service) file that successfully and quickly transfers the records from those temp files to the SQL Server.
I have a SP (Stored Procedure) that takes the transferred records and appends them to the live tables.
Now, here's where I'm struggling:
The above works great when the SQL Server live tables are completely empty.
I'm having trouble dealing with synchronization.
I need to be able to identify NEW records for appending and MODIFIED records for updating. And, this is both on the SQL Server side as well as on the MDB side.
The sequence would be something like this:
1) Grab modified records from SQL Server and UPDATE them in the local mdb tables.
2) Grab new records from SQL Server and APPEND them to the local mdb tables.
3) Grab modified records from local MDB and UPDATE them in the SQL Server tables.
4) Grab new records from local MDB and APPEND them to the SQL Server tables.
As I said, I've already got the core elements in place. The data transfers work well.
What I need from YOU is help in identifying new vs modified recordrs and handling the appends and updates such that we maintain relationships and data integrity.
Thanks for your help.
