2d Fighting Game

The project involves coding a 2d Fighting Game (either in C++ or BlitzMax).? The game would be non-commercial since the graphics and sprites being used will come from existing arcade/console games.? The game will have an 'arcade' feel to it, with multilayered stages, special effects and parallex backgrounds.? The game will have multiplayer online support, so a game server has to be coded also.? I would like specific player information to be stored in MSSQL tables.? The information i am referring to would be a 'points system' whereby players that battle against each other in the online game server would receive points for winning matches which can be used to upgrade their current character's stats (speed, health, armor, power) or unlock new characters.?
