Assembly Programming - Palindrome checker Introduction : This project aims to introduce you to simple assembly programming. Read Appendix A of the text book to familiarize with the SPIM simulator. The SPIM simulator has both the UNIX and Windows version , you are free to use either of them for this project. In this lab you will write an assembly code which checks the given input to be palindrome or not. Palindromes are sequence of characters which are the same when read from left to right or right to left. For example, > Madam > 121 > dad > Mom Requirements : 1. Your program should prompt the user to enter an input. 2. Based on the input it should tell whether it is a palindrome or not. 3. It should give the user a chance to exit the program or enter a new input. 4. It should take care of the cases , that is , should report Madam as a palindrome even though the first and the last characters are in different case. 5. You can expect numbers and special characters as valid input. 6. Comment your program. These will help you earn partial credits in case your program does not work. 7. Though you are free to develop code in XSpim or Spim (the same code ideally works on both platforms) , make sure your program works on mentor account in XSpim . We'll be using Xspim to grade your projects. Accessing Spim and a Sample program To access the SPIM simulator and to run a program. 1. Log on to mentor account. 2. Type /opt/spim/bin/xspim & - if you want to use the UNIX version or /opt/spim/bin/spim & if you want to use the PC version. 3. Load your assembly file to the simulator and click run !! Sample Spim program : .data str : .asciiz " The answer = " .text main: li $v0 , 4 la $a0 , str syscall li $v0 , 1 li $a0 , 5 syscall To download Spim to your personal machine , click here . Tip that may help: If you feel your program is correct and still not working , clear the memory and registers , load the program again and check. Sometimes garbage is not cleared , so it may give erroneous results. Due Date : The due date for the lab is Friday , September 20th by midnight. ## Deliverables 1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done. 2) Installation package that will install the software (in ready-to-run condition) on the platform(s) specified in this bid request. 3) Complete ownership and distribution copyrights to all work purchased. ## Platform Must work on XSpim simulator (University of Wisconsin originated) Must be MIPS version assembly language
