I have posted the same project elsewhere but this clarify a number of points. We are using the Manifold GIS ([login to view URL] ) to develop a custom C# application. With Manifold you can use their own proprietary GUI interface or you can develop your own interface and use their API’s and their active X map control. The active X map control offers the user the basic functionality of any map control – drag, zoom, draw\digitise etc.. However the map does not offer the functionality to Pan while drawing. So when a user is drawing a large line\polygon and they get near to the edge of the active X map control the map control should pan\move the mapping surface to allow the use to see more of the map and complete their drawing. Note: Manifold requires a license to use. Trial licenses for 90 days are available for $99 from their site so if developer’s don’t have Manifold they should take this into account. Technology: • .Net 2 to .Net 4 • C# • Manifold 8.00 Professional Edition (latest version) • Operating system Windows XP. I’ve attached a simple C# application (CickEventTest) that demonstrates the problem – you will need a valid Manifold license to run the demo. The solution that pans the map when the user is drawing when they get within X pixels of the edge of the map control. Run the demo in Visual Studio 2005 or above (.Net 2): 1. Zoom into an area in the map. a. Use the magnifying glass in the map tool bar. 2. Click Draw Area button a. Start drawing by clicking several points on the map. b. Now attempt t o add a point on the map outside the area you have zoomed into. 3. Note how the map surface does scroll. 4. However the original points you drew for this polygon are not displayed in the correct place on the map. a. The map should scroll and the points of the shape you are drawing be displayed in the correct location. To summarise the functionality I require is: When the user is digitising \drawing on the map control we would like the active X control to automatically pan in the correct direction when the line\polygon they are drawing comes close to any side of the map control. After the map surface is automatically panned the user should be allowed to continue to drawing the line\polygon which will be displayed in the correct place.
