Statistical significance calculator This is for a Statistical significance calculator in Delphi. Finding statistical significance is a mathematical process in statistics. You don't need to know statistics to do this project, but you do need some math skills. The name of the software will be: "Whissell Dictionary Stats Significance Calculator" There are three values are: Pleasantness (The mean is 1.85. The standard deviation is .36.) Activation (The mean is 1.85. The standard deviation is .36.) Imagery (The mean is 1.53. The standard deviation is .63.) Here is the description for how to calculate statistical significance, as described by a statistics teacher for this specific case: --------------- (1) I used Z which is the Z or normal distribution test to decide significance. (2) When you are comparing your data average to a norm you -take the difference (you can subtract the smaller from the larger number) -find the square root of the number of scored words - for Pleasantness or Activation, divide .36 by this square root OR for Imagery divide .63 by this square root -then divide the difference you obtained in the first step by the result of the step before this one (3) The result is called Z. If Z is bigger than 1.96 we have significance, and the difference is not likely to be due to chance. (I have simplified this to one step for significance) --------------- The software would use the "mean" and "standard deviations" described above. It would have two modes. In one mode (Compare values to the mean), the user would enter one number for each of the three values, and the software would compare values between a values and the "mean value". In the other mode (compare two values to each other), the user would enter two numbers for each of the three values, and the software would compare them to each other. The fields where the numbers are entered should be labeled "Data set one" and Data set two". After its calculation, the software would show a message informing the user which of the three values (labeled in the GUI, including the means and standard deviations) are statistically significant. It should display the results in the GUI and in a text file, with a standard "browse" window that lets the user name the file and save it to a folder. The text file should include all the information about the calculation, including listing the name of the value, the numbers entered, and say whether or not there is a statistically significant difference between a number for one value and another number for the same value. Like this: Pleasantness (mean 1.85, SD=.36): Value one: [login to view URL] Pleasantness (mean 1.85, SD=.36): Value two: [login to view URL] No statistically significant difference between values. Difference - Z= [login to view URL] --OR-- Pleasantness (mean 1.85, SD=.36): Value one: [login to view URL] Pleasantness (mean 1.85, SD=.36): Value two: [login to view URL] There is a statistically significant difference between the two values! Difference - Z= [login to view URL] --------------- The lines: No statistically significant difference between values. Difference - Z= [login to view URL] --AND-- There is a statistically significant difference between the two values! Difference - Z= [login to view URL] ...should also appear in the GUI (see attached image). --------------- There is a graphic attached to this project, as well as an icon. Sshould run under Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10, 32-bit & 64-bit. .NET framework 4.0 is okay, but not later, please. "About" button says: "©, 2015, Cynthia Whissell & Todd Murphy" I have posted projects in the past that got bids in the thousands, but were completed for just a few bucks. Please be competitive in your bidding. Completing the project will include submitting the source codes. Your work will be checked by a statistician. This will not delay your payment, but it may delay your feedback.
