Freelance Artist -- 2

We are now accepting artwork submissions for a picture description task that will be implemented in upcoming research by The Framingham Heart Study Brain Aging Program, Boston University, and the Davos Alzheimer's Collaborative. We will be accepting rolling submissions. Qualified applicants will be contacted if they have been selected to move forward in our process. This temporary position is geared toward current art school students or recent graduates with significant coursework in figurative and still-life illustration. Little to no professional experience required. Project Description and Requirements: We are looking for an individual who is willing to work with the team to create new drawings/ illustrations. The team will communicate the desired scenes for each illustration and the artist will provide their artistic interpretation. The drawings must contain many different content units (CUs), AKA “things that are happening.” For example, a dog eating a bone. The illustrations should be as detailed as possible. This is because we will ask study participants to speak for 2 minutes describing what is happening in each scene. Additionally, we are looking for culturally appropriate images. The artist will have to work with the team to ensure the illustrations are culturally acceptable and can be catered to the cultures of the many different countries where the task will be given. All drawings must be in color, completed in portrait orientation and can be created either digitally or by hand. If selected, be prepared to work with the team to create different illustrations and make necessary changes to get to a finalized version. Required Skills: ● Fundamental illustration and rendering skills including composition, perspective, form, color theory, use of detail, and surface texture ● Seasoned drawing and conceptualization skills with a proven ability to adapt to established styles ● Ability to communicate ideas quickly through iterative media like sketches and whiteboard diagrams, as well as having strong verbal and written communication skills ● Open and collaborative, comfortable taking direction and critique ● Self-directed and organized with solid time management skills ● Digital illustration skills with advanced knowledge of Photoshop or other digital illustrator medium (preferred, but not essential) Submission and Logistical Details: ● An initial illustration submission of a park scene. We ask that you include many different elements and use your own artistic interpretations. Please be detailed enough that someone may speak about what they see happening in the picture for 2 minutes. The submission must at the minimum include the following: ○ A dog chasing a cat ○ 3 children playing soccer ○ An airplane in the sky ○ A bird sitting on a branch in a tree ○ A woman holding flowers ○ A man sitting on a bench reading a book ● All drawings must be in color and can be created either digitally or by hand ● All drawings should be in portrait orientation (not landscape) ● All images will be freely available to the public, and never subject to copyright via Creative Commons ● Resume or CV with relevant coursework/experience and a portfolio (if available) ● If selected, be prepared to receive feedback and make edits over the subsequent months until images are finalized
