I already have developed a code for NFC based tag readers using MFRC522 chip for linux. Porting that code to arduino is no issue. As for the range, we can use a range extender for that. If you want an output through usb i suggest using an stm32 based solution. It will be far cheaper and easier to maintain and develop. I can also develop a basic display software for linux/windows. I have worked on EM18 module and PIC 18F4550 for small distance detection and identification of 125KHz RFID tags. The same can be applied for long range tags. The result in txt file can be transferred to PC via USB. We also can have other information related to tag saved in the same txt file. Anti collision system is possible using the correct algorithm for detection and disappearance of tags. I have developed a similar algorithm for BLE devices which can handle erroneous connection drops of the tags and faults like double detection. The same can be used for this project.
