Hi,
I am looking to create a map that people can view online (both from a desktop and from mobile devices). I don't want it to be in Google Maps for copyright issues. Prefer OSM or something like that. The map will have garage sale addresses on it (with a number in the icon to denote the start time of the garage sale) and the end user will be able to click on the icon to be taken through to the original garage sale ad. It would be great to be able to "bulk enter" the addresses via Excel or something like that but not necessary. I have found something that seems to work well- [login to view URL] except it is done in Google and has quite a cost attached. Can someone either show me a simpler way to do this (I am not a GIS pro) or possibly build me an entire platform to work from? Willing to pay fairly for this project, but want something that works well. I would also like to limit the area the end user can see when I email or host the map. (ie- I don't want them accidentally dragging the map and ending up in Texas or some thing like that) If you think you can either teach me a commercial application that can meet this need (I've already tried Quantum GIS and it is too difficult and time consuming) or else build me something form scratch that can do this with OSM or something similar, I would be very interested. I just have one area that needs to be mapped and I will only use this area. I would like it to look similar to the link above. Feel free to ask questions- I'm anxious to get moving on this.
Cheers,
Jeff
Hi ..
I have done a same thing for my master degree except the mobile application. If you really need the mobile app i would go through some literature and do. But it might take more time.
I would like to send you a link of a project that i have developed in my local machine. So that you could go through that and if you are satisfied we can go ahead.
Also please let me know the time frame since i have engaged with several other projects so that i could plan myself.
Thanks.
Hi Jeff,
I hold a GIS PhD degree. Consider MapBox? It can host your map online. So you can share your map with your friends. It can use OSM data easily. But I am not sure whether it is easy to address your requirement to limit the area the end user can see. But I 'd like to give a try.
Thanks
Pe
