I'm not a typical games programmer, and I didn't know Kakuro until I saw your project, but I do love working on this kind of problem - see my implementation of Shisen-Sho (I'll post a pic, don't think I can post a link) - and I was severely hooked on Sudoku a few years back ... :) I suppose I should add that I'll provide a simple C++/Windows app, either command line or simple dialog. You may want options to control grid size and other variables.
