We are building a recipe search function that allows users to search for recipes and have their search results weighted. There are 4 different items users can search on - ingredients, time to cook, cooking apparatus (oven, grill, stovetop) and type of meal (appetizer, main course, bread, dessert). When a user makes their selections, the search will be weighted - meaning that a match on ingredients will raise that recipes score more than a match on time to cook. Below is an example of how we envision this to work:
Ingredients = 30%
Time to cook = 10%
Cooking apparatus = 10%
Type of meal = 50%
If a recipe matches the type of meal, the time to cook and the ingredients it would have a weight of 90%. If another recipe only matches the type of meal and time to cook, it would have a weight of 60%. We want the results to be returned in order of weight - with best returns being shown first. Results with matches below 40% are considered non-matches and are not to be shown.
