Your goal is to develop a tiny chrome extension.
The extension will need permissions to access all data on all websites the user visits.
The extension will replace all external javascript codes to different ones for each and every website the user visits.
Example:
if the website visited by user contains
<script src=[login to view URL]></script>
then the extension will replace the script above to the following:
<script src=[login to view URL]></script>
The original javascript ([login to view URL]) will never be executed and the new javascript will be properly executed as if the webpage contained it from the beginning.
This is a project that piqued my interest. I've already assembled a prototype that prevents external scripts from loading on http and https pages.
I wonder, though -- many if not most sites will not function correctly without the javascript they expect. Is this acceptable for your users?
About me: This is the first time I've bid on freelancer.com. I have extensive experience with browser and web technologies as well as a comprehensive CS background. You can see some of my extensions at http://byebyte.blogspot.com.
Questions for you:
- should the extension work for https as well as http sites?
- does it need to be selective about which sites it is applied to?
- does it require an admin interface to specify the replacement script(s) locations?
- is the set of replacement script(s) the same for all sites and will you host them?
- will you host or do you need hosting for the extension for downloads for your users? Note that extensions "phone home" to a source URL to check for updates
Thank you for your kind consideration.
