I am trying to set up a base 3d character for use in the Unreal Engine. The requirements of this character are:
> Male/Female (can be one mesh with morphs, but I've been trying to have 2)
> With face and body morph targets for customization
> Foot IK compatibility
I have been trying to import a character made with Makehuman / mpfb. The reason for using this(as opposed to MBLab) is I can easily generate the morph targets. The requirements of this top-down project do not need very high-poly character models, and they are just normal humans, so advanced character art is not needed.
MetaHuman is too high-fidelity, the body is separate meshes, is not anatomically correct, the web interface is cumbersome, and there isn't a convenient way to get morph targets into the engine.
I cannot get the morph targets from mpfb to reliably import, and am having trouble retargeting the skeleton.
Basically, I need help from someone who has done this, or something similar, before. The character models are just supposed to be standard humans with some variety.
I have a basic understanding of the technical knowledge behind this procedure but it is not my area of expertise.
I am planning to complete this project by first researching different ways to create custom characters in the Unreal Engine and find the most suitable and efficient method to use. I will then create the character models using Makehuman or similar software and generate the morph targets. I will then attempt to import the morphs into the Unreal Engine and apply the foot IK compatibility. If I encounter any roadblocks, I will contact experts in the field or search for solutions online. I will also be sure to test the character models and make sure they are working properly. Finally, I will document my progress and provide the client with a full report of my findings.
