We are moving servers from one location to another. The process will go as follows: Storage A : All data is stored using LVM with each partition in its own LV using ext3. Storage B : GlusterFS is setup so it will be just one big partition. Both systems will be put in the same local network. Data in Storage A is for live VPS servers running Xen. The task will require shutting down each VPS, taking a snapshot of the LV, bringing the VPS back online, and then transferring that partition drive over to the new Storage B. Once all of Storage A partitions are on Storage B, a few days later, Storage B will be taken to a new location in another network. From Storage A location, with each VPS, the latest data from it needs to be synced with the basic copy that is in Storage B. This could be done with rsync or whatever other type of utility works best for updating Storage B with the latest files. Then that VPS that has been updated will be brought online with Storage B at the other location. Once all data from Storage A has been migrated to Storage B and all VPSs live with it, Storage A is then going to be taken offline. The transfer between the two networks is only 100MB, which is why we are attempting to transfer the base data prior to the move and then do an update of only changed files. What we need is someone who can script out this process effectively for us and make sure that all the data is properly copied over. If you can put together a shell script that can take care of each task that would be ideal. One script for creating the snap and then copying over the data to Storage B. Another script that can be run later to update the data in storage B with updated data from the time it ran on Storage A. The main reason for this is to ensure as little down time as possible for our VPSs while ensuring 100% integrity of data in the transfer. Storage servers are running debian/ubuntu while the VPSs are running CentOS 5.x 64bit. We would be happy to give more work the the successful freelancer that does a good job on this. Thank You
