I have set up a Web forum on my site based on open-source phpBB scripts. Unfortunately, it does not work well for me simply because I don't have a habit to visit the page often and answer online. What I need is a gateway between phpBB, email and a private newsgroup, which would give my customers an option to participate in the discussions in any way they like: 1) whatever is posted to the forum, it also appears on the NNTP newsgroup; 2) it also gets emailed to all users (people, registered with the forum) who checked such option; 3) a user can email to a specific address and the message appears on the forum (and goes to NNTP and other users, as described above) 4) When accepting email, the forum scripts should verify that it's from a registered user. 5) Situation with the forum script is posting to the newsgroup and then the newsgroup trying to post the same message back to the forum should be handled correctly. If everything goes well, there might be one or more larger follow-up projects extending the functionality of my web site (scoring system for beta-testers, feedback forms, customized mail lists and such)
## Deliverables
1) A set of modifications to be applied to phpBB scripts and the database. 2) Installation instructions. 3) Don't care about ownership and copyrights to the mods, you might as well publish it to phpBB site. 4) If you are using any 3rd-party code, it must be free (open source) and its origin clearly documented.
## Platform
PHP + Apache + mySQL, on either Linux or Windows (the real site is on a Linux server). Mail or news files are not directly available from the server where PHP runs, must use imap_xxxx() functions (or whatever) to check the mail/news.
