Test features of the UBOS Linux distribution

Indie Computing Corp., a small startup based in California, develops UBOS, a Linux distribution that makes it easy to self-host web applications on physical hardware (x86, Raspberry Pi, etc) and in the cloud (Amazon EC2). To support an upcoming software release, we need help with testing from an off-shore contractor. This is a short one-time project; however, if things work out, there will be more work: there are other platforms to test, and more releases to come. Task: * Boot an Amazon EC2 instance from a UBOS development image created and published by us on EC2. * Log into that EC2 instance using SSH. * Using a combination of commands on the command-line on your computer, commands on the command-line via SSH, a web browser accessing the EC2 instance, and the EC2 website, perform a series of tests. * The actual tests to be performed will be provided to you on a private website. Here is an example for how test steps look like: Action: on the device under test, execute "ubos-admin backup --out backup.ubos-backup" Observation: command executes without error Success [ ] Fail [ ] Observation: the created file backup.ubos-backup is not empty Success [ ] Fail [ ] * For each observation, check the corresponding check box so we know whether the step succeeded or failed. * If a test failed, file a bug with a detailed description (test step, expected result, observed result) on [login to view URL] * We expect this task to take no more than 8 hours of time the first time it is performed. Requirements: * Knowledge of Linux and its command-line. Test question: what is a process exit status, and how do you determine what it is from the shell? * Computer science or other relevant degree preferred but not required. We care more about knowledge, ability and commitment, than we do about degrees. * Experience with software testing, server-side preferred. * Software development experience with scripting languages is a plus. * English language skills to enable successful communication by e-mail and per phone/voice/video. * Access to reliable broadband connection (for accessing EC2, but also screen sharing and/or video conference if required). * Access to a PC (Linux, Mac or Windows) that runs ssh. If Windows, must use cygwin, the Windows subsystem for Linux, or Linux virtual machine. * Diligent, detail-oriented, reliable. Links: * [login to view URL] * [login to view URL]
