OneWire or TwoWire LED chaser design

I need to design a LED chaser that will be powered by a 12V battery. It needs to have a master PCB which will control all the slaves connected. The slaves will be chained together and distanced about 5 meters apart with a 4-pin connector IN and 4-pin connector OUT. Each slave will have a 12V lamp attached and switched by a mosfet. The requirement is to make a plan on what microcontroller, ic's and other parts to use, and which technologies to use to achieve this. Create a prototype on ready made hardware like an Arduino or similar. And develop the code which will run this. Preferably something cheap and accessible and easy to use like this: [login to view URL] But if the Arduino hardware and toolchain cannot achieve this then anything is acceptable. The PCB layout and design ill make myself once the plan is prototyped. You will develop the code. A big note to look out for is that OneWire or TwoWire is a must, there cant be more then 4 wires. Also the slaves (slave1, slave2, slave3, slaveN) can be connected in any order (so no marking's on the slaves that this is number 1 connect it to the master, this is number 2 connect it after slave1 etc.)

Pozdrav! Lijep pozdrav!

Hi, I'm an electronic engineer with more than 5 years of experience in Arduino based systems development. I read your project description and decided to apply for the project as I have previous experience in designing LED systems with addressable LED light strips such as WS2812 LED strips. Also I have created systems which works as master slave way. So given the experience I have in this domain, I'm confident on completing this project successfully. I believe we can do this based on Arduino hardware and only thing on my concern is 4-5 meters length of wires would make a problem. But I think if we are using addressable LEDs we dont need separate slaves and can be controlled from one master as well as it has signal repeater built in. I'm looking forward to reply from you on this. Thank you Anusha

At first look I would recommend running an I2C bus (2 wires) through the setup. It can run very long and you only have to use one microcontroller, the rest would be cheap ICs so it will end up very cheap. However, the max length may end-up as a deal breaker. Can you let me know how many of these lamps in succession do you aim to support? There is also a CAN bus protocol, again 2-wire, and it would definitely do the job but the components are a little costly. A custom protocol is an option too, you can bit-bang with a microcontroller at every node but again, not the cheapest option. Please message me in chat if you are interested and we can discuss this at length.

Hello, I can help you with the pcb design for the slaves including UART receivers, mosfet, isolation, etc. and for the master also with the coding -arduino nano is satisfying- good luck husam - edit 1 if arduino is out of budget at89c2051 is a possible alternative.
