Hello, I can design schematic according to your description. Current limit could be set by 4 on/off switches or 16 way dip switches. It will use some transistors, resistors that are switched in to set limit and a diode to block out pulses created by inductive load. If you are interested I will run a few tests and then send you a schematic. Only problem might be that at 5,5 A current limit transistor will need to dissipate lot of heat. Best regards.

How are you planning to let a DIP switch allow 5.5A?That is alot of energy. Does the DIP meet the rating. If you use a potential meter you can use a MOSFET or power transistor to go from 0 - 5.5A, some calculation required. 'There are alot of ways to do this but more detail is required.
