Developing basic Health and Safety tools (documents) that are user friendly and engaging for construction SME so they understanding their Health and Safety responsibilities to make better H&S decisions and how TO DO Health and Safety onsite. Health and Safety Documents have already been ‘dumb down’ and tried to make it user friendly (i.e. remove legal jargon). My goal is for the information tools to be engaging with a persuasive writing theme, maybe a similar theme to that of reading a surfing /mountain bike magazine.

“Offer me this job,” he said, “and I’ll take it and make you proud!” That’s not the traditional way to open the cover letter for a job application, but I take the “creative” in creative writing very seriously. Indeed, an employer can expect from me consistent creativity and seriousness of purpose. After years of study, I have mastered the techniques, mechanics, and, most importantly, dynamics which make the written word engaging. I strive, in innovative ways, to craft complex ideas into accessible and readable concepts that jump off the page and into the reader’s thoughts. In my opinion, capturing the moment is only part of the craft. Of equal or greater importance is building reader interest and involvement — making the reader an actual participant in the moment. Being able to do so is one of my greatest skills. Therefore, when that moment arrives, I am confident that the message, and with it, the story, will “pop” so as to evoke the desired emotional response. Over the years, I have honed my writing skills to enable flawless execution in meticulous language. I will not only help you with the hook, line, and sinker, I will get you into the boat and take you to the biggest catch.

Hi, I would love the opportunity to work on this project for you. I have, over the years, developed a unique creative flair which I think will be perfect for these documents. I can write clearly and concisely and have a little bit of experience writing articles for Magazines. Should my bid be successful I will arrange for a phone call or Skype session so we can run through exactly what style you are after. I think as a Kiwi I already have a good grasp on what will and will not work for your target audiences. I've also worked on construction sites in the United States (during my travels) and have a good understanding of how sites run on a day to day basis, including the daily safety briefings. I look forward to hearing from you. Regards, Nicholas Ryan

Hello, I do understand what you are hoping to accomplish. A 'dry' topic needs a good wordsmith to make a document more readable - more 'approachable' and reader friendly. My approach would be to, of course, review your documents in their currents state. Then, using MS Word Track Changes, start making comments and notes as I review a second time. By then I will have a full grasp on the content. You have told me that you have already 'dumbed it down' and that is great. My skill as a wordsmith is to rephrase, offer synonyms to avoid over usage of a particular word. It is a bit of an art! Once the rewrite is done ..... then the next part! I firmly believe that in documents such as these a creative eye is also needed. So the formatting will be the final consideration. Instead of pages of text text text, my approach would be to format the document in such a way that the eye is constantly engaged. How? Sections could start off with standard formatting to introduce the topic now being covered. The opening paragraphs would be in standard A4 format. Then the text could flow into 2 columns. Easy on the eye. I would use side bars, quote boxes and call outs whenever it would be helpful - and this also helps the reader 'remember' where certain content is. Shaded boxes, pleasing color palette, easy to read font, suitable Heading and sub-heading styles. Not much room left in this text box, so I will invite you to dig into my Profile.
