Write an action plan to reduce personnel cost

Write an action plan to reduce staff personnel cost for a hospital floor using the following parameters Current personnel budget is over by $450,000 year to date due to shortage of trained nurses. This has resulted in OT usage, crisis pay usage, and supplemental staffing usage. Patients with altered mental status have resulted in an over use of sitters to prevent harm to patients. 1. Review staffing daily with charge nurse 2. Cancel unnecessary prn nurses/ care partners/secretaries 3. Change staff to days that are not staffed as well 4. Keep a weekly calendar of staff on duty vs number of patients on floor 5. Mix step down patients with floor patients to achieve safe patient assignments with maximum use of staff 6. Strategically place care partners to round proactively and more frequently on mentally altered patients. 7. Review schedule and make changes to proactively cover shifts maximally for patient safety vs staff preference. 8. Reduce turnover through increase in satisfaction. 9. Recruit new staff members as soon as it known that a staff member is resigning or transferring 10. Re-inforce that committee attendance is important, but unit coverage comes first. 11. Five nurse complete orientation within six weeks. Review in three months to determine reduction in personnel costs.
