Convert repository from Subversion to Git

I have a Subversion repository that I need to convert to Git. I do NOT want to simply check out my files from Subversion and check them in to Git. I want to retain all of the history that currently exists in my Subversion project so that it exists in the new Git project. This capability is built in to Git (supposedly), but I have not been able to get it to work for this project. This is a one person (me) project, so it is not important to worry about the history of who checked in the files; it was always me. This is basically a single thread project, but it has been under Subversion source control for a long time and there are some 1,200 revisions, so it is not practical to manually check out each revision from Subversion one by one and then check them back into Git; also, that method would not retain the check-in dates for the revisions. Be advised that the capability of importing a subversion repository is supposed to be built into Git. There are lots of blog postings out there that outline how it is to be done. It looks relatively easy, but I have tried this and it did not work for me. Very possibly, I just did something wrong. Or there might be something wrong with my Subversion repository, but I doubt it. If you have done Subversion to Git conversions before, or if you think you can do it, then take a crack at it. But I will not pay for this project unless the repository, along with all history, is converted to Git. I am using [login to view URL] for hosting. They support both Subversion and Git. I can either provide you with access to the Subversion repository and an empty Git repository on ProjectLocker and you can update the Git repository, or I can give you a Subversion backup file and you can use your own tools and/or host and just provide me with a Git repository backup. This is a .Net desktop project, but that really shouldn't matter. I'm not expecting you to build the code or do anything with the code at all, except to move the files. I will not necessarily take the lowest bidder. I don't want to waste my time with people who think they can do the project and then can't get it done. The idea is very simple and straightforward. There is no coding involved.
