At the moment, I run LTSP fat clients, and have done so for several yrs. I want to get free from LTSP, and be able to use a pxe booted client that downloads a full linux OS installed every boot occasion on ram disk drives in the client.
What I need is a system for building the image. I want to use a full linux installation on a virtual machine(KVM), to be the image base from where I build the image.
In this VM I can install the software I need, and run an image build everytime I want to change it.
The /home should reside on nfs. Only root user should be present in the image, all other users should be provisioned from LDAP with sssd.
I believe that the freelancer that take on this project need to be familiar with LTSP, since it is a very good start for understanding what I want to do here.
Basically, what I want to get free of from LTSP and fat clients, are the problems with users not present in the local image, the read only file systems, and the problems to install software into the image that needs a GUI to install. I also want to speed it up by using RAM disk drives, since RAM is cheap nowadays.
What I read about this matter, is that it might be problems with memory leaks, to run an image totally in ram?
