DEVELOPMENT OF WEBBASED BOOK MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

• Browsers book club currently sells books to the general public by mail order, although individuals are required to join the club as members, and are obliged to buy at least 5 books per year, or books to a minimum value, from the date of joining. Each month the club sends members a brochure of new books, with a statement of their account. Members may or may not purchase book(s) from the brochure, but also from books previously offered. They do this by returning a standard form on their statement, and may enclose payment for previous orders. Orders over a certain value are dispatched free, while smaller orders are charged for delivery. The club occasionally makes offers where a member buying 2 particular books together is charged less than the total of the prices of the 2 books sold separately. • The club wants to make the catalogue of books offered available online, to make it easier for members to both browse the catalogue, and to make purchases. It is not intended to allow online payments at this time – this will still be done via the monthly statements. The system should allow members to view books by category (e.g. History, Travel, Fiction, etc), and to add books to their basket, to edit the contents of the basket, and to post their order to the club. • The system should record details of orders placed (online or not), dispatches, returns, and print statements for members and administrator, highlighting overdue accounts. Statements should also now automatically remind members where they have only 2 months left in their membership year to meet their annual obligations for minimum purchases, as detailed earlier. . Administrators should be a ble to process all transactions from backend of the website.
