A checkpoint based save system can be implemented for a budget of $900 USD. The system will save the current level, current wave data and upgrade/unlock information. If the player dies or quits the game before reaching a checkpoint, the game will start next time with the last available checkpoint data and the incomplete enemy waves will spawn again. Once the checkpoint loads, the player will spawn at predefined spawn locations. These locations will be implemented through actors that you can place in the level and then select which spawn point actor will be used for which checkpoint. The checkpoints can be configured through the level flow manager.
