A non-supporting wall was removed between a kitchen and a dining room. The builder put in a steel beam which he said was stronger than necessary, but he also said that it would need signing off. He said that whoever inspected would want to see that the pad stones or cap stones had steel reinforcement in them. Ordinarily this would be the man from the council. I want an independent engineer.
