i want to modify or add to the write functionality of debian so that instead of replacing a file when there is a write after modification of the file, it does that write but also creates a copy of the original file. For instance, pull into and editor, modifying a line and then writing the file will result in two files.... with the latest change and with the original version of the file. I don't care if this is in or external to kernel as only the functionality is important. I suppose this means that the write would not overwrite the original source but rather rename that source and then write the modified buffer to a new file of the same name as the original.
