A computer technical support center is staffed by two people, Alice and Bob, who take calls and try to answer questions and solve computer problems. The time between calls ranges from 1 to 4 minutes, with distribution as shown in Table 1 below. Alice is more experienced and can provide service faster than Bob. The distributions of service times for Alice And Bob are shown in Tables 2 and 3.
When both idle, Alice takes the call. If both are busy, the call goes on hold; this is basically the same as a customer having to wait in line in any queuing model. The objective is estimate the following parameters by using dicrete event simulation:
• Average caller delay (hold time) waiting for Alice or Bob to answer
• Percentage of callers whose calls go on hold
• Average caller delay (hold time) waiting for the callers whose calls go on hold
• Alice’s idle time percentage
• Bob’s idle time percentage.
Please note that you have to do this project by Discrete Event Simulation (DES). If you use any other technique, there will be a %50 deduction in your grade.
