For the purposes of this work you have been tasked with designing and developing a new bumper assembly.
A potential bumper assembly is composed from several parts. For the purposes of this report define these parts and outline their purpose – (minimum 5 parts). You are encouraged to consider a simple assembly, based on simple parts and shapes such that simple calculations can be derived.
develop own assumptions as to what this bumper will do followed by a clear evaluation of the potential solutions to satisfy them. Your defined assumptions should be based on clear and specific measurable tests which you will use to assess these solutions. These should lead you to develop your own 20 basic requirement / tests. The provided spreadsheet is a simple tool to help you in prioritizing these requirements and evaluate your own proposed solutions. Your potential solutions can be variations to Geometry, Material and or Configurations.
Please provide a report with your assumptions, calculations, solutions and observations as follows;
A. Your assumptions in terms of design, requirements and measurables
B. State clearly your requirements and their limits
C. Justify your material choices and calculate their basic performance. Consider structural, weight,
price etc contribution to the overall bumper assembly.
D. Your material choices if the requirements were prioritized differently
E. Assume a material failure by choice. When this can be a good strategy?.
Key calculations and assumptions need to be explained and justified adequately. To keep these calculations simple consider that forces are applied uniformly to the whole bumper assembly.
The work should not exceed 1500 words. Diagrams, Designs, Calculations & Spreadsheet references are not included to this limit.
The developed spreadsheet needs to be referenced and be submitted with this report.
