<Technology Description>
This technology is a technology to appropriately determine whether to change to the left adjacent lane or the right adjacent lane. One of the problems that can be anticipated when vehicles automatically perform lane change is that if each vehicle simply performs lane change, the flow of traffic may become uneven between lanes. To solve this problem, this technology estimates the congestion degree of the traveling lane of the ego-vehicle based on the ego-vehicle speed, estimates the congestion degree of the left adjacent lane based on the speed of vehicles traveling in the left adjacent lane, and estimates the congestion degree of the right adjacent lane based on the speed of vehicles traveling in the right adjacent lane. Then, this technology determines whether to change to the left adjacent lane or the right adjacent lane by comparing the congestion degree of the traveling lane, the congestion degree of the left adjacent lane, and the congestion degree of the right adjacent lane.
