Add some simple search code to Wordpress Page and return xml results to another page

Simple coding required to take sample code and add functionality to a search box in a wordpress site.
Site has 2 pages with Search
Search will use sample code available to contact an online database using defined functions
Results returned in XML
Results need to be stored in a local database
Results need to be returned back to the webpage in a new page
No formatting is required at this stage

We are wanting this in java or php for ease of integration to Wordpress, but open to suggestions to make this better
