Convert Word to PDF without losing formatting such as carriage returns.

After converting from Word to PDF, when I cut/paste the source code into a text editor, the text loses its original formatting such as all carriage returns/line feeds. Any ideas how to fix this?

Copy and paste the text into an open office document, it should keep all the formatting, and then select "convert to PDF" from the File menu.
