Contest Brief

I am looking for an initial logo for a new newsletter which hasn't been publicly announced yet but I've been sharing it with a small community for a month now.

I'm looking for a logo that would work well at large or small sizes, and that also could be incorporated into a banner; but the contest is really just about the logo. (I'm sorry I can't edit the name of the contest any more once it has started).

The newsletter is for managers, or those considering managing, research computing teams - teams of people with both technical and scientific backgrounds who are building the software or the systems that support scientific research, in academia or in industry.

The focus on the newsletter is helping those managers develop both the managerial skills necessary to lead such teams effectively, and keeping them up to date on emerging technology and research.

Some relevant links are below - the first link is to my blog describing the newsletter. The newsletter design needn't echo any of the elements of my blog.

I'd be interested in either:

(a) relatively flat minimal logos, with the banner also having the name of the newsletter - Research Computing Teams Newsletter - or
(b) something more cartoony, in the spirit of the blog header which is attached (but again, needn't match).

I'd like the imagery to emphasize the idea of team, research, or management - less so the idea of computing or computers.

Hi everyone - I'm really impressed by the submissions so far!

A couple of clarifications - I'll add them to the contest too:

* Communicating the ideas of team, managing/leading, or research are more important to me for this than the idea of computing/computers
* The closest thing I have to a tagline so far is about "making science better by leading research computing teams and projects well" - I know that's a pretty poor tagline and doesn't help you much, but the project is still new and finding its message.

  First of all, the logo name is too long.
  Second, tagline may define your business. But it is too long also.
  I would like to say, make it short.
  then include that whole name as tagline. Otherwise you will not be able to use this logo freely any of your work. After knowing feedback from you. I will start work.

Finally, I'm going to remove the part about a banner - let's focus on a logo, something that would work at modest sizes *and* could be _part_ of a banner, but asking for both a logo and a banner in this contest is too much I think.
