Contest Brief

Illustration and Design contest to create a basic cuboid map of my Fantasy World for my children’s fantasy series (The Chronicles of the Elements) This world is located in the core of planet Earth.

The map must be in the shape of a 3D cube.
The Kingdoms (or main locations on the map) come from the Periodic Table of the Elements.

Design and create a basic map using color, shapes and Kingdom names to indicate the location of each of the 9 Kingdoms in my novels.

The first 8 Kingdoms are located at each vertex (corner) of the cube (There is no specific order or placement for the first 8 kingdoms), but Kingdom 9 (The Actinoid Kingdom) must be located in the very centre of the cube.

The 9 Kingdoms are:

1. Nobleg Kingdom
2. Halogen Kingdom
3. Pomet Kingdom
4. Nomet Kingdom
5. Lanthanide Kingdom
6. Transmet Kingdom
7. Alkaler Kingdom
8. Alki Kingdom
9. Actinoid Kingdom (must have a radioactive green glow and be in the centre of the cube)

• Each Kingdom should have a different color to represent it and must be named (You can leave off the word Kingdom. (The Kingdoms need to look slightly different in their geometric shape design)
• The kingdoms are all connected via a network of interlocking tunnels – how you represent this is up to you.

The overall composition of the map should be interlocking geometric shapes (The Inhabitants of these Kingdoms are also made from interlocking geometric shapes.) Please refer to my website to see the animated book trailers for the first 2 novels which also contains character galleries. (The 6 human children from my novels are not to be included in the map.)

The map will need to be created in high resolution, as it will be used in print and digital marketing

(I have uploaded several zip files with images for the 3 books to use as inspiration.)

Hello, CH! I have a question - does it have to be a cube? What if I draw three squares, for example - two like those old-timey maps, showing two hemispheres of Earth (like this one for exampla http://hd.wallpaperswide.com/thumbs/old_earth_map-t2.jpg ), and the third - with a map of the Actinoid kingdom? Also, just in general, what style of map are you looking for? Tolkien-style fantasy map, or more like a cyberpunk-ish with a grid and lighty spots, or what? Thanks in advance :)

What kind of background do you want (color)? Do you have any specific font for names or it can be anything that fits into the image's style?

  Hi Vasiliy - The entire Core (map) in my novels is surrounded by a Lava Flow so it oud have a red/orange glow or have no background at all (white) As for the font - please look at the book covers and select something that is cohesive with these titles and fits with your design.
