Contest Brief
Who are we?
We're called The Yellow Brick Road Gallery ... Why? Because following the Yellow Brick Road is all about following your dreams and the path to success and happiness.
We're a start up based in the beautiful island of Bali. What struck us was the amount of undiscovered, brilliantly talented artists. Their Challenge? How to share their outstanding work with the masses? This is where we come in! We aim to set up an online art platform and bring their art to the fore.
... This is their Yellow Brick Road. And also ours, because we love being here in Bali! :-)
We also aim to extend the Yellow Brick Road, through profit sharing, to help and support art and creativity in local communities who may otherwise not have the means to explore their undiscovered talents.
What do we need?
We need to create our identity ... and as you all know, a brand is way more than just the logo ... its everything that represents the business. We're aiming to be a high-er end brand delivering a very sleek and clean online experience. We're putting in place a truly end to end experience that doesn't stop at the purchase. We plan on continuing to engage customers during the production of their chosen art piece as well as post sale, through engaging on the wider brand purpose around the Yellow Brick Road Foundation. Content is king! This plays a huge part in not only the customer experience but also in the wider digital marketing strategy. Hence the brand and all we stand for, is critical ... and this must be conveyed through our identity.
Specifics - the boring part!
Of course we need a logo ... we're open to simply font, words, symbols but above all (obviously!), it needs to stand out. And also a little snippet from research we did with a previous company - yellow is the most liked colour by consumers! :-) The logo (and all other assets e.g. fonts, colours etc) have to work across multiple digital formats (web, social media inc. Facebook, Instagram, You Tube) and in print on collaterals e.g business cards and brochures. Signage should also be a consideration - who knows, one day we may expand! We also need clear guidelines on typography and fonts, colour palette - black and white version should also be a consideration albeit we anticipate using full colour. We then also need a full and clear set of brand guidelines to ensure consistency across all we do including a view on how, for example, we might use photography to represent the art. We know you know this but just for clarity! (#eyeroll) - the work needs to all be within regulations i.e... IF there's any use of imagery / photography - then it has to be legally allowed and also no extra ongoing fees for the use of any images etc. Also no costs on the use of certain fonts. We're a start-up, we're broke! :-)
And finally, a little more about who we think our customers is ...
Her name is Lindsay, she's around 40, married with a couple of 'little angels' running around, degree educated, and has an established and successful career in one the worlds big cities (UK, Aus, Singapore, Jakarta, New York), earning around 150K GBP. She's house proud and enjoys entertaining friends and family at home. Her home is her biggest and most important asset. She has a spontaneous purchasing side to her especially when she falls in love with something and just ‘needs it’! She loves eating out and socialising and if only she had time to do all the stuff she knows she should be doing, like the gym - but well, priorities! She has refined tastes! ... loves boutique stores, expects personal customer service and is impressed by places and experiences that are sleek and simple and of course, always looks for quality over cost. This expectation goes right from the clothes she buys, the perfume she wears to the places she eats and drinks. All in all Lindsay likes the finer things in life and well, thats OK, she's worked hard for it.
