Contest Brief
We are excited to announce a logo design contest for our upcoming re-design of our budgeting app, EnvelopeBudget! We are seeking a fresh and innovative logo that represents the concept of envelope-based budgeting. Whether you choose to modify the original logo or create something entirely new, we are open to your design choices.
For those unfamiliar with envelope-based budgeting, here's a brief overview of how it works:
An envelope-based budgeting system is a method of personal finance management that involves allocating and tracking money for different categories of expenses using physical or virtual envelopes. Here's a brief description of how this system works:
1. Identify and categorize expenses: Start by listing all your regular expenses and dividing them into categories such as rent/mortgage, utilities, groceries, transportation, entertainment, and savings.
2. Determine your income: Calculate your total monthly income, including salary, freelance work, or any other sources of revenue.
3. Allocate funds to envelopes: Assign a specific amount of money from your income to each expense category. For example, if your rent is $1,000 and groceries cost $400 per month, allocate $1,000 to the rent envelope and $400 to the groceries envelope.
4. Use physical or virtual envelopes: Traditionally, envelope budgeting involved using physical envelopes for each expense category. You would place the designated amount of cash into each envelope. Nowadays, virtual envelope systems, such as budgeting apps or digital banking tools, allow you to allocate and track funds digitally without physical envelopes.
5. Spend from the respective envelopes: As you make purchases or pay bills, take money from the corresponding envelope. For example, when paying rent, take $1,000 from the rent envelope.
6. Track and adjust spending: Keep track of your spending by updating the envelope balances regularly. This can be done manually by recording transactions or using budgeting software that automatically tracks and categorizes your expenses. If you overspend in one category, you will need to take money from another envelope or adjust your budget for the following month.
7. Evaluate and refine your budget: Periodically review your budget to assess your spending patterns and make necessary adjustments. If you consistently find yourself short on funds in a particular category, you may need to reconsider your allocations or identify areas where you can cut back.
The envelope-based budgeting system provides a visual representation of your finances, helps you prioritize your spending, and encourages better financial discipline. It can be a useful tool for managing your money effectively and staying within your means.
We look forward to seeing your creative designs for the EnvelopeBudget logo and how you capture the essence of envelope-based budgeting in your submission. Good luck to all participants!
