Contest Brief

Hi amazing illustrators.
I am a previously published indie author looking for an illustrated colour book cover, front, spine and back for a first chapter book/middle grade reader/years 6+.

(The winner will also be commissioned to complete a further 12 ink line drawings for the book with additional payments.)
This is book 1 in a 4 book series which have been written but yet to be published.

I am open to any style but please look at other books in this genre. For example google the 'Jack Stalwart'; 'Spy Dog'; 'Double Dragon Trouble (Dragon Slayer's Academy Series )'; books and notice the series branding and internal illustrations.


Design ideas for the front book cover:
Series Title is 'Chloe's Crazy Adventures', Book title is 'Saving the Easter Bunny' Author is 'Will Richards'
The first book is about Chloe going on a quest to the amazon rain forest to find the magical, golden cacao tree. She needs to retrieve a golden cacao bean to help save the sick Easter Bunny otherwise there will be no Easter eggs this year. She travels down a rabbit hole to the Amazon where she meets many animals that help her on the quest.

Chloe is cute 6 year old with brown eyes, brunette hair cut in a practical bob style. She lives in Birmingham, England and is wearing a t-shirt and shorts. She is holding a blue gemstone that is glowing, starring in wonder. Beside her, looking up is her new friend Ambrose the spider monkey.

The background scene is in the amazon rainforest.

We also need the Easter bunny - he is old and grey, wearing a crumpled top hat, tails, waistcoat, and a monocle.
Some where in the scene please also add the main villain, the black Jaguar, staring menacingly at Chloe.
Perhaps also have the golden, glowing cacao tree in the background somehow.

Ideas for the back cover:
The back cover will need an area for the blurb, space for author photo and ISBN image. Please use some 'Lorem Dipsom' for the blurb. One of the scenes in the book is of Chloe riding on a Toucan with Ambrose the Spider Monkey, flying above the amazon river heading towards the island in the distance. Chloe has been shrunk so the toucan can carry both her and the monkey. Or simply have a pose of chloe looking directly at you the reader.

I would like the final illustrations in 300 dpi RGB mode in PSD file format. Book dimensions are 5.06 x 7.81 inches (198 x 129mm)

The work will be commissioned; I will own the rights to the images.
You will be named on the front cover and inside the book as the illustrator and have the rights to share the images for your own promotional purposes.
I hope this to be start of a true partnership and go on to two other series of books which I have ready to publish.

    Due to the outstanding contribution made I will be issuing a bonus to the two runners up. Although in no way full compensation I want to give a tip of the hat to the amazing work. The runners up have been chosen as I believe (assuming the designers still wish to work with me) will be better suited to two other book series I have in the pipe line.

    Amazing illustrators! thank you all so much for the many hours of work you have all put into the designs. I have been in awe of some of the beauty and creativity shown. Thank you all so much. Unfortunately its has been a very, very hard decision to choose just one. The different styles demonstrated has opened my eyes to some looks I had not imagined. In the end the short list of 8 was reviewed by a panel of 4 children and four adults and whittled down to three.

    Okay, second question: there are 4 species of spider monkeys that live in the Amazon. They are: White Bellied, Red Faced, Peruvian, and White Cheeked. They look significantly different from each other. Do you have a preference?

      So to conclude, the above image that you described will be in the back of the book and in the front will be the general image of all the characters (Chloe , Ambrose, the Jaguar, etc.)?
