This is an article I wrote for a pamphlet on the recovery of Sri Lanka's tourism industry after its protracted civil war and the devastation of the 2004 tsunami. This is one of a number of article I wrote for the pamphlet. It focuses on Trincomalee, a former beach resort that was close to the last stronghold of the Tamil Tigers and, as a result, remained closed to most tourists for a significant length of time. The articles were written after an extensive trip to Sri Lanka and all of them were based on original, first hand interviews.
