I work all the time on Ubuntu (refer my previous projects - all over Python and Machine language and Image Processing). I do have about 15+ years of experience in Systems and Middleware Administration. 3 lines of configuration file changes and off you go ! Setup of X11 is the most basic fundamental step for my environments when I get on to Image processing. I will have this issue fixed quickly and let you go on with your journey of work.
