Do some 3D Modelling

This assignment will develop your skills in 3d solid modelling, and build your understanding of how components and assemblies are represented in 2d engineering drawing. You will be designing a pen made from a billet of Aluminium tube. You will do this by modelling the components in 3 dimensions and assembling them. You will then create 2d Engineering drawings from your 3d parts, from which you will eventually work to manufacture the pen yourself. The actual workshop skills of manufacturing will not be marked as part of this assignment, but as part of your portfolio of work for Design Thinking and Practice 1 module. For the first part of this assignmentyou will use the Solid Modelling tools in Autodesk Inventor to create a 3 dimensional part file for each of the components of the pen. These consist of: • The Pen Tube. The main tube body of the pen must be designed to incorporate both lathe and milling machine manufacturing processes. Note: You will not pass the unit if these are not evident! • The pen cap; this will screw into the upper end of the pen tube, and you also have creative control over the exterior form of this. • The pen nib; this has already been designed, and will be shaped on the CNC lathe, but you will still need to reproduce the drawing yourself to include in your set of component drawings. • The Refil; you will need to reverse engineer the refill to create a solid model of it. N.B. whilst the refill is itself an assembly of several components, you are not expected to take this apart, and you can model it in 3d as a single solid part. You can purchase the refill from J205 stores. • When you have created each of the components as a separate part file, you will assemble them using an Inventor assembly document. For the second part of the assignment, you will create a set of 2d engineering drawings from your 3d part files. You must also submit, as separate documents,a parts tree, and a 2d assembly drawing of the whole assembly that includes a parts list linking it back to the numbered component drawings. The third and final part of the assignment is to create a rendered image of your 3d pen assembly, with appropriate materials/lighting/background. The body, cap, and nib are aluminium, and should be rendered as such, but you have creative control over how you choose to portray your work as a piece of graphic design. Imagine this image as the marketing shot that would be used in a magazine advert for your pen. You might consider a name or brand for it. When you export the rendered image from Inventor, you may use Photoshop or other software to further manipulate the graphic. • Parts tree, showing the components of your pen, and the refill as a subassembly (you should make an educated guess as to which components the refill contains). • A 2d assembly drawing showing all your pen components, any information needed to assembly them, and a parts list. • A 2d component drawing of the pen body • A 2d component drawing of the pen nib • A 2d component drawing of the pen cap • A 2d installation drawing of the refill
