What we’re after: We are looking for an online marketing specialist with the expertise to use FB, Instagram, and Google ads to push our product to the right people. The right candidate will also need to have a good grasp of google analytics and be able it up so that we’re able to see where online sales are coming from.
Who we are: Expedition X is an outdoor adventure company that offers packrafting trips and skills courses in southern New Zealand.

Our challenge: As a small company, our current staff lacks the expertise to self-market our trips successfully (but they have the expertise to give an awesome day on the river!). Past marketing strategies involved hiring costly marketing agencies to promote trips. These agencies relied heavily on ads placed in tourist leaflets and brochure distribution, but didn’t provide a good return on the investment (again, they were costly). Last year we dabbled ourselves with internet/social media marketing using Google ads and FB ads. We were pleased with the response but the learning curve was steep. We’re keen to drop our marketing agency and put our budget in the hands of a freelancer who is proficient in connecting via social media with our target market and helping to grow the company.
The offer: This will be an ongoing gig. We’d like to meet (virtually) with a candidate to discuss the terms of the arrangement, but are in a position to offer a weekly rate for marketing work (dependent on hours/work invested), plus a commission on any conversions. Because we have a top notch and unique product, heaps of great reviews through trip-advisor, and a professional website, someone with the right skills could do well while helping us grow our customer base. We will provide an advertising budget in addition to what the candidate makes to be used at the candidate’s discretion to pay for ads on the various platforms.
What we’re looking for: It will be important that you understand the product in order to be able to market it to the right demographic and create suitable ads. Thus our ideal candidate will be both savvy with social media marketing and have a knowledge and passion for the outdoors.
