Project Reports

Gene technology: Practical reports will be required from each of the students. Whilst students are working. in pairs, which means they will have the same experimental data, results and figures. The practical report does need to be their own work and written in their own words. The reports should be brief, at most 5 pages long. The format should be simple i) An overview of what the project was aiming to achieve. Show that you understood what the mini-project was about and what we were aiming to do. This should be no more than about 10 lines and students need to make sure this is in their own words and not just the lab notes rewritten and handed back. ii) A results section detailing your own results, it does not matter if a section of your work did not work as expected; detail it, that is the data you got in the experiment. iii) Some explanation or discussion of the data. If the experiment did not work, what could possibly be the reasons, ie what went wrong, what could you have done differently to enable you to answer that question and what further controls could or should you have included in the experiment. iv) Any suggestions regarding the pracs themselves, ie improvement in the organisation, design or delivery.
