SECTION D: DETAILED REQUIREMENTS
As a local web designer, you have been approached by the Welsh Assembly and Swansea city council with a project to reinvent the current Swansea airport website. This is a very small airport which is located on the Gower Peninsula south-west of Swansea. The airport currently has flights for the public transport of passengers as well as for flying instruction. It has one terminal building which seats 25 passengers. The Welsh Assembly and Swansea city council would like a new dynamic and engaging website driven by rich media and interactivity; they have stipulated the use of Adobe Flash as the chosen platform to produce this new airport experience for Swansea. The current website is one which is static in nature ([login to view URL]) and thus requires manual updates to be made by its staff. The new website must look professional, clean, functional, be easy to maintain and easy to use for their customers but at the same time promote the Swansea area through a good use of rich and engaging media. The website needs to include all the relevant airport information as well as a weekly schedule for all flights arriving and departing from the airport as well as information on all flying lessons being undertaken.
The Welsh Assembly and Swansea city council has already identified a number of features and guidelines which should be present in the new RIA experience outlined as follows:
i) A Graphical User Interface (GUI) constructed from a simple navigation system (comprising of around 5 key frames) making use of the Flash timeline and Actionscript to navigate between these individual frames. This RIA can be either a desktop-based AIR application created using Flash Professional or a web-based application created using Flash Professional. You should structure and populate the key frames of your RIA to make use of any necessary components, text and graphics to provide a working front end to your RIA. You are allowed to take inspiration from various Airport web and/ or desktop applications but this MUST not be a direct copy. The front end must have a certain amount of originality and make use of various UI components and dynamic text;
ii) Internal functionality must make use of Actionscript to grab external data from outside of your RIA. For example, getting information such as flight times, prices, destinations/ poster images, video clips etc from custom generated XML files to populate dynamic fields to appear within your RIA at runtime. Not all information has to be dynamic and some can be static in nature. Other uses of Actionscript might include: the use of code to display a photo slideshow (i.e. photos for the Swansea area etc); the use of a YouTube API to show film clips of the area; the inclusion of a Twitter widget to update with flight news etc.; the incorporation of a Quiz on Swansea area to add some interactivity and an element of fun etc.
iii) You can use Actionscript 2.0 or 3.0 but be careful on mixing versions of code;
iv) The RIA must be created in a version of Adobe Flash (not Dreamweaver or equivalent);
v) Typical canvas size must be set to 1024 pixels width and a maximum of 850 pixels height;
vi) The RIA should comply with RIA accessibility guidelines;
