I'm finishing a science fiction novel and would love to include an up-front map to aid my readers. The novel is called "Lucid". Here is a short blurb:
In the near future, corporations control your body while you sleep. When Edgar’s daughter Shea goes missing overnight, he develops insomnia and discovers a connection between her disappearance and the technology governing this society. He finds a "constant" that helps distinguish lucidity from sleep, and together they embark on a journey to find Shea. To infiltrate this technology and discover what happened to her, Edgar must cede control over his own life. What agency, if any, does technology leave us?
The novel is set in a fictionalized version of the American Pacific Northwest. The states (Washington and Oregon), topography (mountains, ocean) are genuine. The cities are fictional, as are new near-future concepts like wildfire areas and temperature horizons. I've included an attachment of my map draft and the novel's key locations.
For some creative ideas:
- The novel characterizes a society designed for people to comfortably get to sleep. Thus many locations have a "cabin plaid" aesthetic. A sample is attached.
- A bison is a recurring symbol, and one my eventual cover designs is also attached.
