Configure SSL to work in a website served to China

I have a teaching website, the students are in China. I recently added an SSL certificate. Now the TLS handshake fails quite often.
Im looking for someone who can configure the Ssl certificate properly (I probably messed something up). I am in China, and I am not sure if that has anything to do with it (national firewall). Other websites use https no problem.
