I'm a published author of several novels and short stories. Samples below:
From The Sharpest Pen (short story):
They pulled into a side street and Becky saw the patrol car already at the address. She pulled up behind it and they got out. Becky took a closer look at the patrol car and realized it wasn’t one of theirs. In fact, it wasn’t a real patrol car.
“Miles, get down!” Becky shouted as they both ducked. Gunfire erupted from the house, impacting Becky’s car just above where they’d taken cover. Becky crept to the driver’s door and grabbed her radio.
“This is Victor 7209. We’re pinned down by gunfire at 712 Dornan Street. Repeat, this is Victor 7209. We are facing light gunfire from suspect at 712 Dornan Street. Requesting backup. Use caution when approaching. There is a false patrol car in front of the address. Repeat, the patrol car is a fake. Over.”
“Guess I was wrong about the weaponry,” Miles said. “There was nothing in Hangate’s dossier about owning a firearm.”
“Unfortunately,” Becky said. “Getting a gun illegally isn’t hard to do. Just, well, illegal.”
From To Dream of Death (short story):
“We’ve got a break, Dean. Not a big one, but something.”
“The Doppelganger?”
“I think so. L.A. office got a call from one of the airlines operating out of Sonoma. An abandoned briefcase, flown to Mexico City the day of Vanessa Miken’s murder, it was checked in by one of the valet’s. We got a physical description, but it could be just as faulty as the rest of them.”
