The Fearless Giant
Not so long ago, on the edge of a small village there was an old tumbledown castle. In the castle there lived a giant and his sister.
Joseph was not as tall as the giants you read about in some stories, but he was still a very big man and he had to bow his head whenever he went through the doors. Well, as you might imagine, he’d had a few knocks and bruises over the years from forgetting to duck, but he was always pleasant and helpful to the villagers. He loved it when children came to collect apples from his orchard. Everyone liked him and they knew he was afraid of nothing.
The giant’s sister, Petra, was well liked in the village and she was always the first to visit anyone sick, bringing them one of her delicious apple pies.
One day when Petra was in the Post Office, she met Dr. Springlove.
“Hello there, how are you, and how is your brother? I haven’t seen him for a while.”
“I’m fine Doctor but I don’t know what is wrong with Joseph. He has hardly spoken to me this week. Every time I talk to him he grunts at me and walks away, and he hasn’t even done any crossword puzzles. I’m starting to get worried.”
“Hmm, has he been eating properly?”
“Well no, he hasn’t. He always likes an apple in the morning but today he took one bite, yelled and threw it away. When I asked him what was wro
