Sybase 12.5 Arabic character set problem

Our client has a Sybase 12.5 database that has Arabic data,it's installed on a Windows NT 2000 machine.

we need to connect to it from our server, using a tool like "Sql Developer" or "TOAD for Sybase"

the problem is : both can't read the Srabic characters properly,Latin letters appear instead

-We tried changing the "character set" in the client application to be "CP1256" or "Unicode",

but this failed because the Sybase database doesn't has these charsets

-We have done some investigation on the database, the default charset is "CP850"

-The installed charsets on the database are as follows:

ascii_8

defaultml

iso_1

cp850

utf8bin

bin_iso_1

bin_cp850

binary

(.. and some other charsets for other unrelated languages)

-We think that installing some Arabic charsets would solve the issue ,but we aren't very

sure about that

-The Sybase installation on our client's machine is working well, but it might be missing some files, you might

have to re-install it

Please propose a solution to the issue, while providing the estimated duration

Do you have Arabic language support installed in the server? This might solve the problem, and your clients' machines probably have it too. Also, have you tried querying the database using isql open client? I als More
