We produce high-quality articles for management consulting firms. Sometimes to support those articles we source material from the public domain. We have two of our own researchers, but we are growing and they are getting overloaded. For an article we are about to write, we need examples of companies that did well, and that did badly, during the last recession. We'd like about 10 examples of each.
The article will recommend that to be ready for the next recession, companies should do the following things:
Become more agile
Outsource everything that’s not core
Sell and lease back assets such as real estate
Put people onto flexible working arrangements
Move enterprise apps to the cloud
Shed non-core businesses
Improve their profitability
Deploy intelligent automation
Use spend analytics to analyze (and then reduce) costs
Source strategically – focus on fewer, better vendors
Increase their liquidity
Shorten the cash conversion cycle (AP & AR)
Negotiate better credit terms with suppliers and customers
Get a larger line of credit from the bank
We'd like examples of companies which did some of these things prior to the last recession and as a result weathered it well. Also examples of companies that did not and suffered for it, or perhaps even folded. We'd like the examples to cover a range of the recommended actions. The examples should not be proprietary to a management consulting firm (a competitor) else we can't quote it. Of course, there may not be 10 good examples of each, in which case we'll put a limit on hours and work with what we get.
