Update Cart Discount Logic ASP VBScript

Currently, we have four types of discounts to calculate in our shopping cart. The cart is designed to look for all discounts and take only the larger of the four types and use the largest discount for a specific item in the cart.

The discounts are

Item Specific Discount : Mount View 4 Door Bookcase 13% off.

Type Discount: All Desks 9% off.

Supplier Discount: All Hooker Furniture items now 35% off.

And most importantly, the Volume Discount calculated as follows:

Volume discounts are given at the following rates:

Total Amount Discount

$10,000.00 13.00%

$8,000.00 9.00%

$5,000.00 7.00%

$3,000.00 5.00%

$1,500.00 3.00%

Note that volume discounts are calculated on all items that do not already have item discounts. If the volume discount on all items calculated without item discounts results in larger savings, then Mahogany and More promises you the largest savings available.

The cart works very well at helping conversions by offer large discounts on large orders.

Now come the changes. We have begun to list most products at MSRP less a substantial discount (usually 35-45% off MSRP). In the past we have focused on showing the everyday low starting prices. We realize this is not the correct strategy and move to MSRP with big highlighted savings.

So now those items which are MSRP less 35% will never qualify for the volume discount. So, when buyers put together a large order, we are not competitive.

We need to implement two separate discount calculations methods. One for items priced at the everyday low price and a second for those using MSRP. Where the MSRP items can have the Volume Discount ADDED to the supplier discount, instead of taking the larger of the two discounts.
